In shape and size, the diffuse x-ray emission is very similar to the radio emission. Neither is perfectly symmetrical and most of both emissions lie above the plane of the galaxy. There are several possible explanations for the existence of the diffuse x-ray light: it may be emitted by hot gas or by as many as 10,000 very hot, young stars known as T Tauri stars. Synchrotron emission and inverse Compton emission may also be responsible.
